What We Do

Heavy-duty diesel service from intake to road-test.

Mechanical work on a Class 8 tractor is a different problem than mechanical work on a pickup. Different diagnostics tools, different lift capacity, different parts pipeline, different inspection requirements. ATEL was built around heavy-duty diesel — that is the platform we work on every day, and the platform our technicians are certified on.

We cover engine diagnostics and overhaul, drivetrain and clutch work, electrical and air systems, brakes, suspension, steering, alignment, and DOT annual inspection. Whether the truck rolled in for a check engine light or for a full out-of-frame rebuild, the work happens in our building.

Fleet maintenance managers and owner-operators get a single point of contact. Diagnostics findings are documented before parts are ordered, and we work with your warranty provider where applicable.

Why Us

Fleet Managers' Biggest Concerns — Solved

For fleet managers, vehicle downtime isn't just an inconvenience—it's lost productivity, missed deadlines, and increased operating costs. That's why our team focuses on quickly diagnosing and repairing the issues that most commonly impact fleet performance and profitability. Whether it's a warning light on the dashboard or a truck struggling to maintain power, we help get your vehicles back on the road fast and operating at their best.

Check Engine Lights

A check engine light can indicate anything from a minor sensor issue to a serious engine or emissions problem. Our technicians use advanced diagnostic equipment to accurately identify the root cause and provide effective repairs that prevent small issues from becoming costly breakdowns.

Engine Derates

When a vehicle enters derate mode, performance is intentionally limited to protect critical systems and comply with emissions regulations. We quickly diagnose the underlying issue, perform the necessary repairs, and restore full vehicle performance to minimize downtime.

Low Power Complaints

Loss of power can significantly impact productivity, fuel efficiency, and driver satisfaction. Our team identifies and corrects the causes of reduced performance, including engine, turbocharger, fuel system, emissions, and electronic control system issues.

Poor Fuel Economy

Rising fuel costs can have a major impact on fleet operating expenses. We diagnose and repair the mechanical and electronic issues that contribute to excessive fuel consumption, helping improve efficiency and reduce operating costs across your fleet.

Emissions System Failures

Modern diesel emissions systems are critical to vehicle performance and regulatory compliance. From DPF and SCR issues to sensor failures and aftertreatment faults, our technicians provide expert diagnostics and repairs to keep your fleet compliant and running reliably.

Minimize Downtime. Maximize Fleet Performance.

Our goal is simple: identify problems quickly, perform repairs correctly, and get your vehicles back into service as efficiently as possible. By focusing on the issues that matter most to fleet managers, we help reduce downtime, control operating costs, and keep your business moving forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions we hear from customers

A few quick answers. If yours isn't here, call us or use our contact form.

What diesel engines do you work on?

All major heavy-duty platforms — Cummins, Detroit Diesel, Volvo, Mack, PACCAR (Kenworth/Peterbilt), International. In-frame diagnostics and overhaul, fuel system service, after-treatment work.

Do you do DOT annual inspections?

Yes. We are authorized to perform federal DOT annual inspections. We also handle pre-inspection prep on out-of-criteria units and track expirations for fleet accounts.

Can you handle in-frame and out-of-frame rebuilds?

Yes. We perform in-frame overhauls on most heavy-duty platforms and out-of-frame rebuilds where required. Diagnostics drive the decision — we don't over-scope work.

Do you work with extended warranty providers?

Yes. We coordinate with manufacturer and third-party warranty providers — diagnostics documented, claims supported, direct billing where the policy allows.

Do you offer fleet preventive maintenance contracts?

Yes. PM intervals tuned to your duty cycle, service histories tracked per VIN, reminder scheduling and consolidated monthly billing.

How quickly can you diagnose a down truck?

On fleet accounts, same-day diagnostics is typical. Walk-in turnaround depends on the queue, but we triage so down-units don't sit behind PM work.

Where are you located and what areas do you serve?

The shop is at 12120 Conway Rd, Beltsville, MD 20705 — minutes from I-95 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. Our primary service area is the DMV: Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia. Fleet pickup and delivery arrangements are negotiable on contract.
